Mahi Panchal, Genevieve Burgess and Era Trapashiya have all represented Metropolitan East at the Queensland 10-12 Years Girls Cricket State Championships. Three girls, one club, one rep side. The whole club is very proud of them.
So what is "Met East"?
Met East is short for Metropolitan East School Sport, one of the twelve regions Queensland Representative School Sport uses to run rep sport for school students. Each region picks its own teams for the state championships.
Wellington Point sits inside Met East, which runs from the Bay Islands to the M1, and from the Brisbane River down to Logan City. Any student at an affiliated school can trial, state or non-state.
How a player gets there
- SchoolGet noticed, get nominated.
- District trialEach district picks a squad of twelve.
- Regional trialDistricts play off, selectors pick the Met East side.
- State ChampionshipsThe twelve regions meet. This is where the girls have just been.
- QueenslandA state team is picked from the championships.
Getting one player into a rep side is a good season for a junior club. Three from the same club in the same age group is something else. Well played, all three.
Girls of any age and any experience level are welcome at Wello. Start with our Girls Cricket program.
